My Approach to Counseling

Collaborative, Not Prescriptive

We set the goals together and revisit them as things change. You decide what to bring into the room and what to leave for another day.

Evidence-Based Methods

I draw on CBT, ACT, and mindfulness-based approaches, and adapt them to what actually fits you rather than working from a fixed script.

Free 15-Minute Consultation

A short, no-obligation call to talk through what you are looking for and whether I am the right fit before you book anything.

About Me

Meet Your Counselor

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in private practice. Most of my work is with adults moving through anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and the strain that relationships and work put on everyday life. My training is in clinical mental health counseling, and I draw on cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches.

What that looks like in practice is fairly simple: a steady, unhurried hour where you are not managing anyone else's reaction. I will ask questions, offer tools that have research behind them, and be honest with you about what I think — including when I believe a different clinician or level of care would serve you better.

Common Questions

What happens in the first session?

The first session is mostly me listening and asking questions — what brought you here, what you have already tried, what you want to be different. You do not need to have it organised or explain everything at once. Near the end we agree on where to start.

How long will I need to come?

That depends on what you are working on. Some concerns settle in six to twelve sessions; longer-standing patterns take more. I review progress with you every few weeks so it stays a decision you are making, not a subscription you forgot about.

What do sessions cost, and do you take insurance?

I will give you the exact fee before you book anything, so nothing on the invoice is a surprise. If I am out of network with your insurer I can provide a superbill you submit for reimbursement, and I hold a small number of reduced-fee places. Ask me directly and I will give you straight numbers rather than a range.

Is what I say confidential?

Yes. What you share stays between us and your record is protected under HIPAA. The limits are the ones the law sets for every licensed counselor: if there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, if a child or vulnerable adult is being abused or neglected, or if a court orders release. I will walk you through these in writing before we begin.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes, over a HIPAA-compliant video platform. One requirement worth knowing early: counseling licences are issued state by state, so you need to be physically located in the state where I am licensed at the time of a session, even if you normally live elsewhere.

What if I need help right away?

This website and my voicemail are not monitored around the clock and cannot be used for emergencies. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. If you are in crisis or thinking about suicide, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or go to your nearest emergency room. If it is urgent but not an emergency, leave me a message and I will respond within one business day.

Getting started

What the First Step Looks Like

Reach Out

Send a short message or call. You do not need to explain everything — a sentence about what is going on is enough to start.

Free 15-Minute Call

We talk briefly about what you are looking for, how I work, and whether I am the right counselor for it. No charge, no obligation.

Book Your Intake

Pick a time that works. I will send intake paperwork and my consent and privacy forms to read before we meet.

Begin the Work

We meet in the office or by secure video, agree on where to start, and set the pace together from there.

You Do Not Have to Sort This Out Alone

If you have been putting this off, a free 15-minute call is a low-stakes place to start. No paperwork, no commitment — just a conversation about what is going on and whether counseling makes sense for you right now.
